1855 N3 1855 N3 MS 62/60

EAC Grellman graded 62/60 for spot at star 13. Only flaw is a light spot at star 13 which is not as noticeable in hand. 10-15% mint red. Early die state a. I bought this one from Ira Goldbergs 9/07 auction lot #2381.


1855 N3 clip 1855 N3 strange planchet or clip

EAC Grellman graded 10/8 recolored. He said irregular planchet as struck. I believe it to be an elliptical clip. ex Bill Simonson 5/5/08


1855 N4 1855 N4a

EAC Grellman graded AU 58. It is a EDS choice example of this common variety and die state. ex Scotsman Coins auction Lot 1603 7/31/04 sold as MS64BN.


1855 N4c 1855 N4c

EAC Grellman graded MS63/62+ for a minor rim lamination at K6. This is CC1 for the die state. ex CVM 1/15/13 and Dan Holmes.


1855 N4d 1855 N4d

EAC Grellman graded 40/35 for being lightly cleaned. It is a M-LDS (d) with 2 reverse rim cuds at "T"and "E" in STATES. A scarce cud with 20 known in this state. I bought this one from Bill Simonson recently. This one is tied for CC#13.

EAC Grade XF45. The two reverse cuds are strong. ex Bob Laforme at EAC 2012 on the bourse...5/4/12.


1855 N4f 45/35+

I called this one 45/35+ for rev spots. It could be a 45/40 but who knows. It is a really sweet coin with all four cuds strong. 4 reverse rim cuds at "T", "E","T" and "S" in STATES. More common than die state d with 38 known in this state.

EAC Grellman graded 45/35 for obv nicks and scratches. I consider it a 45/40. It is a really sweet coin. It is a LDS (f) with 4 reverse rim cuds at "T", "E","T" and "S" in STATES. More common than die state d with 36 known in this state. I bought this one from Bill Simonson recently. This one is tied for CC#16. The cuds are strong as seen.


1855 N4f VF35

EAC Grellman graded 35. It is a really sweet coin. It is a LDS (f) with 4 reverse rim cuds at "T", "E","T" and "S" in STATES. More common than die state d with 36 known in this state. I bought this one from Bob LaForme. This one is tied for CC#20.


1855 N4g 1855 N4g AU55

EAC Grellman graded MS60/55 recolored. Mint state sharpness but cleaned and retoned a highly glossy dark olive and steel brown with frosty ligher brown toning in protected areas. Possibly coated with a very thin layer of laquer as the surfaces are more glossy than normal. The only mark is a small spot of slightly darker toning at the top of star 2. TDS, die state g. All 5 rim cud breaks on the reverse are clear, including the final one at OF. Tied for second finest known among a dozen known in the terminal state and many of those have weak cuds. Removed from an NCS slab graded unc details environmental damage. ex Dan Holmes lot 3021 1/30/11;ex Jules Reiver Heritage 1/24/06 lot 20614;ex Del Bland 10/27/76. EAC Grade is AU50 CC6 for this tough variety. It is a really sweet coin. ex Allen Ross from David Kahn 11/7/12.

EAC Grellman graded AU55. It is a really sweet coin. It is a early die state (a). I bought this from Rod Burress in March of 2007.


1855 N7c 1855 N7c

EAC Grellman graded MS60+. It is a really sweet coin. It has a small rim clip as minted. Nice luster with lots of mint red remaining. ex Great Southern Coins 2/6/09.


1855 N8 1855 N8

EAC Grade XF40-. It is a really sweet coin. ex J Mayer via Allen Ross; ex Joe Dooley; bought 12/31/10.


1855 N9 VLDS 1855 N9 terminal state?

EAC grade probably G6 or so. I showed this to Bob Laforme. He thinks it is later than state g. Grellman said he would need to examine a higher grade coin to be sure? Not sure what that means since I only know of this coin one other that Fred Borcherdt owns. His appears to be a twin to this coin.

EAC grade AU58 net 50 for rev spots. I called it a state c+. It is a really sweet coin.

EAC Grellman XF45. Its only flaw is a couple of minor reverse rim marks. It is a really sweet coin.


1855 N10 1855 N10

Grellman called this one a MS63 which is my nicest large cent. It is a 11.5 stars variety which means star one is partially clogged and star 6 is completely clogged by grease. Ex Tom Hart. The obverse and reverse are mismatched colors. Grellman notes that he has seen many like this. They were stored in cabinets for long periods of time without being turned or moved causing the underneath side to remain full mint red while the other side toned.

I won this in the Baltimore Stacks auction. It was Lot 494 housed in a MS64BN holder. The pic was terrible but I bought it anyway hoping it was a nice upgrade for me. Turns out its a sweet coin. I called it MS63 and TCC3 for the variety. 11/14/12
